Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is a perennial plant. Depending on the variety and climate, the plant can live for five to twelve years. With a height of up to 1 m and clusters of small blue flowers, the plant resembles clover. The plant has a deep and powerfully developed root system that can extend up to 4.5 m. This allows the plant to survive very well during temporary droughts.
