Timothy or Timothee (Phleum pratense subsp. Pratense) is a plant of the grass family (Poaceae). The plant has 42 chromosomes in a plant cell, in contrast to small timothy grass (Phleum pratense subsp. Serotinum), which has 14. It is a very nutritious grass that grows along roads, dikes and in meadows. There are so-called meadow types and hay types for sowing in grassland. The pasture types flower later than the hay types. Sown in grassland, it usually disappears again soon or occurs sporadically. Can withstand mowing, but less good against grazing It is a perennial, turf-forming grass that can reach a height of 40-150 cm.
